烈酒浓情――伍礼作品印象

醇厚的烈酒,是我看伍礼画的感觉。

2006年6月,我为宋庄美术馆开设“例展”《生活在宋庄》做田野调查时,找到伍礼的画室,那是一个很小的农家小院,正房四间大概六十平方米左右是画画的地方,一进院子就闻到一股油彩的味道,我一脚踏进房子的同时就立即把脚缩了回来――那味道太浓烈了,以致我有点受不了,屋子的地面几乎滴满了颜色,油腻腻的,屋子的空间被画堆得满荡荡的,让人透不过气来。那天,我有点激动,因此,在《生活在宋庄》的展览上,我给了伍礼作品一个比较突出的位置。

我猜想伍礼小时侯一定喜欢玩泥巴,我感觉伍礼的画面几乎是把颜色“拽(发阴平声)”到画布上去的,那方式就像高超的泥瓦匠抹墙的感觉,有一种劳动的快感。看他的画面,好像他从不用松节油稀释油画颜色,粘稠浓烈的色彩在笔的运用中,如锥画沙,如屋漏痕般反复触摸在画布上,不是过于熟巧的“帅”,而是有力道,浓烈,醇厚。

伍礼一定是个生命力旺盛的人。但他不善言辞,沈默寡言。伍礼一定是个情感浓烈的人,唯情感浓烈,内心蓄积的活力才涌动不息,唯画画才能舒缓他内心感觉到的生命活力。伍礼也一定是个敏感的人,唯敏感才明晰自己的内心,有话要说,并知道自己要说的“话”是什么,所以他的敏感也促使他能够寻找到适合表达自己的方式,伍礼是一个天才的画家。

伍礼作品提供的生命意象是如此的浓烈,以致感觉到的画面形象粘稠和爆裂着湧动而来。这些形象有时是他自己的形象――但不是写实主义意义上的自画像,而是活力洋溢的自己――五官和身体都仿佛正在被一种内力鼓胀和变形着。这些形象有时是肉体和泥土的混合形象,充满新鲜感的肉色和金黄色的泥土,象和泥一样的相互混合、纠缠、挤压在一起,肉色的新鲜和泥土的金黄,蓄积和散发着响亮、高昂和浓郁的气息。这些形象有时是一棵树,或者一大棵我说不上名字来的阔叶植物,茂密和疯长;或者即使干枯,也盘曲如虬龙,倔强而挺立。这些形象有时也采用日常动作的形象,象那幅亲吻泥土的动态,是他对童年乡村生活的眷恋。做爱的那幅画面,卷曲的身体,仿佛每一个部位都膨胀着。尤其那幅似大解的画面,暗色的背景突出了那张脸――少有稀释的颜料表现出一种稀里哗啦的快感。

肉色,金黄般的暖褐色,浓郁的绿色,在蓝紫色倾向的暗色中,慢慢的一遍一遍地聚集、翻滚、挤压、膨胀着,酿造出醇厚的烈酒,浓郁扑面。

周依是一位年轻的中国艺术家,自10岁起居住在罗马,并在伦敦及巴黎求学并获得政治学及经济学学位。精通多国语言的周依今年迎来了事业的第十个年头,其作品在上海双年展,威尼斯双年展以及圣丹斯电影节等重大活动上展出。

2011年,周依被娇韵诗Clarins选为历史上第一个艺术家形象大使来支持美容品牌。近日,周依还为意大利眼镜品牌Persol导演并制作了一部短片,获得极大反响,同时她还出演了Persol的平面广告。居住在上海以及巴黎的周依目前还担任了土豆网的艺术总监以及新浪时尚艺术顾问的职务。

作为多媒体艺术家的感想:

我们生活在一个多媒体的世界,机器、智能手机、软件都以令人晕眩的速度汇聚到一起。周依相信人类、艺术家们也应该把他们各式各样的能力集合在一起,因此她也把自己的工作投入到许多不同的环境及媒介当中。
 
最近,法国高级定制珠宝品牌Gripoix的创意总监 Marie Keslassy任命周依为Gripoix品牌Capsule合作系列首饰的艺术总监。其第一个系列名为Pineapple’s Secret“菠萝密”。

3D动画“Labyrinth”(迷宫)是2010年9月开始制作,2011年6月完成的作品,首次亮相与2011年6月周依于威尼斯双年展举办的个展中。由于作品创作于艺术家在东西方国家游走的时期,许多不同的东西方元素与象征在该作品中出现。与之前的作品一样,“迷宫”的构思与创作都基于一种无意识。3D镜头从一个固定点围绕着逐渐增强的轨道进化旋转。随着画面的一次次旋转,观众越来越无法控制自己的各个感官。

该作品是关于对于未来世界的新启示录:“所有的事物,战争或者和平,都有一个变化的滤镜,比如造成速度变化的滤镜,造成重力变化的滤镜,导致我们看到的自然事物和普通事物也就不同了。”

动画的开头及结尾同样有一个循环的模式:鲨鱼将一个个人从嘴里吐出,在结尾处,鲨鱼如梦境一般地变为鲸鱼。鲸鱼也释放出一个个人,最后人类漂浮到海面上。来到海面之后,每个人物的嘴中都有火焰点燃。星星点点的火,还有人,在海上漂浮,这是人类信任的希望抑或是质疑。

Labyrinth is about new apocalypse. All the war and peace imageries we've seen on the net, newspapers, Hollywood movies with a new filter. Every character is created on the computer from scratches. Every item has a distortion and variation filter such as gravity variation, speed variation which makes natural and daily elements look like different.

Labyrinth is a 3d animation video that has been created from September 2010 to June 2011. It has been first shown at Venice Biennale in June where Yi had a collateral solo exhibition. The work has been created through a time span where the artist transitioned from the west to the east, therefore, many signs and symbols of the east and west unconsciously merged. As many of the previous works, this work is written and created on the basis of the stream of unconsciousness. The 3d camera pattern evolves and rotates in a crescendo path from the same standpoint. Each turning spin, the viewer seems to lose more and more the control of his senses. The beginning and the end also has a circular mode: sharks spitting men and the end it s the same dream like sequence with sharks being replaced by whales. The whales also release men, many men float towards the sea surface. During its emerging trajectory towards the surface, a fire gets lit up through each character's mouth. Many fire, men float onto the sea, a hope or a question mark about humanity's faith.

Biography

Yi Zhou is a young Chinese artist who has lived in Rome since the age of nine.  She studied between London and Paris and earned degrees in Political Science and Economics.  Yi Zhou is a polyglot artist who uses styles she has inherited from both her Chinese heritage and European upbringing to create works that support an East/West collaboration.  She is celebrating her 10-year career this year, a career that has included work shown at the Shanghai Biennale, the Venice Biennale and the Sundance Film Festival.

Living between Paris and Shanghai, Yi Zhou creates large multimedia installation artworks that blend film, digital animation, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, and contemporary music composition. Her works explore the realm of hyper-realism and neo-realism: on the one hand, she derives visual and tangible forms from the imagination and dreams, while on the other hand, she gives a surreal aspect to nature itself.
Her work is a complex synthesis of imagination, literature, mythology, philosophy and new technology and is impregnated with Chinese and Mediterranean culture. Her works introduce the disturbing magic of both virtual and supernatural characters and landscapes as well as the ephemeral reality of life, love, and death while using the symbolic language of the unconscious.

Blending ancient expressive methods, such as sculpture in marble and 35mm film, with extremely technologically advanced ones, such as 3D animation, Yi Zhou presents a vision of life, transcending both time and space, inflected with irony and wit.

Yi Zhou recently directed a much-hyped short film for Persol that was featured in Persol’s ad print campaign.  The short film highlights the intrinsic beauty found within the details of life.
Recently, Marie Keslassy, creative director of the French couture jewelry house Gripoix, appointed Yi Zhou as art director for a capsule collection line.  The first collection is entitled “Pineapple’s Secret.”  The jewelry drew inspiration from pineapples, with pieces reflecting various aspects of fruit.  Yi Zhou found that a slice of pineapple or the prickly skin of a pineapple could be transformed into beautiful pieces of art.
Yi Zhou is a modern-day Chinese Hitchcock and Cindy Sherman; she is from the Twitter/Instagram and Tumblr generation, an image maker and muse, switching from the front and the back of the camera. Currently, Yi Zhou is also Tudou.com’s (Chinese would-be Youtube) art director and serves as art and fashion advisory member at Sina.com (which owns Chinese twitter).

ARTIST STATEMENT:
1. The work is about the construction, deconstruction, disintegration, re-creation, transformation and the reification of simultaneous and parallel worlds.
2. The New worlds are a synthesis of the ancient, the present, the imaginary and the sub-conscious world of dreams
3. The vision that inhabits the work is expressed through the layering of all kinds of media; everyone is the subject, from the obscure to the infamous. Its content is both the sum and the details of human activity.
Yi Zhou has held solo exhibitions at the Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont, Paris, and live art performances at Deitch Projects, New York. Many of her video works have also been consecutively selected by the Venice Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. In 2011, she was also invited to show her video works at the FIAC outdoor project in collaboration with the Louvre and Fondation Ricard. In December 2011, Yi Zhou has also done a 15 minutes' piece that she has written and directed for United Nations starring Jackie Chan and Clotilde Courau.
