关于展览
当代唐人艺术中心将在2012年3月24日至4月30日非常荣幸地推出旅法艺术家王度的个展“中国当代美术馆”。
王度的创作往往来自于社会图像,他通过个人的视角将媒体的话语进行极端式的裁切和夸张,并将图像从媒体语境还原到现实空间,以硕大的体量和信息的泛滥感让观众重新审视和思考媒体信息的真实性,颠覆性的创造了一个新的现实层面。王度常常宣称“我就是媒体,我就是现实,我就是图像”。 他认为“全面媒体化的 ‘第三现实’正在构成一个需要不断重新定义的当代社会文化生态”。因而,他的作品可视为是从不同的切点重新定义现实的一连串观念,或者也当作他曾说过的“我是大众和现实的发言人”的“发言”。
这次在当代唐人艺术中心的计划,王度建造了一个莫须有的“中国当代美术馆”,貌似一个巨大的建筑结构模型,而建筑主体则好似一个切成四段的“航空母舰”建筑群,甚至还有复杂的“地下设施”,建构成一个功能全面的美术馆机器。这个疯狂而又偏执的乌托邦式美术馆计划,锈迹斑斑呈现在我们眼前,带着强烈的“复古未来主义”气质,却昭示着现在时的缺席:在盛世强国的今天,哪里可以找到一所真正具有文化使命感、功能齐全和运作专业,并能承载中国当代文化的国家美术馆?
一座航空母舰往往是军事强国的象征也是弱国梦寐以求的补药,面对当下文化价值观混淆游离的中国社会生态,王度满心幻想地打造了一个野心勃勃的“中国当代美术馆”,并奢望真能出现一座代表国家强大的文化“旗舰”。
当代唐人艺术中心曾在2008年8月成功举办过王度的个展“国际快餐”
关于艺术家
王度,于1956年生于湖北武汉,80年代后期在广州成为“南方艺术家沙龙”的核心,开始讨论艺术如何介入社会的问题。他于1990年起工作和居住在法国巴黎。曾任教巴黎八大艺术系和法国布列斯特(brest)高等美术学院。
王度作品运用多种媒介包括,装置,雕塑,摄影,多媒体等。 从描述阿拉法特在联合国昏昏欲睡的《跳蚤市场——贩卖新闻》(1998),到反映科索沃战争的
《纸上谈兵》(1999),展现中国50周年庆的《阅兵式》(2000),暗喻“9·11事件”的《人行道上的飞毯》(2004),到用影像拓扑来描述国际视野下中国现实的 “国际快餐” (2008),王度的许多作品涉及文化批判和重大时事主题,具有解构权威、主流、体制的指向。

Tang contemporary Art is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Wang Du, entitled Le Musée dArt Contemporain de la Chine , from 24th March through 30th April. Wang Dus
inspiration has always derived from social images, and through varied perception, he attempts to appropriate the language of media in its extremity and exaggeration. The
artist then avails oneself of images from the mass media of our reality, in order to make us reconsider the intended realism of media, based on theaccumulation and excess of the message.He declared, "I was the media, I am realistic, I was the image". He believes that "comprehensive media of the 'third reality' is constituted ofa need to constantly redefine the contemporary social and cultural ecology." Thus, his work can be seen as cut from a different point of the series to redefine the concept of reality, or also as he said, "I am a spokesman for the public and the reality" and "voice."For his latest project, Wang Du has constructed the fictitious “Contemporary Art Museum of China“. In its overall capacity, this installation appears as a huge architectural model, while its main body looks as if the ‘aircraft carrier hasbeen divided into four pieces. There is even a sophisticated ‘underground facilities‘ below the main body, all of which amounts to this machinelike of a comprehensive functional museum. This crazy yet paranoid utopian museum project that appears rusty in its naked front, carries in steadfast a violent quality of ‘vintage futurism’ ; however, it declares the absence of a present era.In our global obsession of powerbuilding within countries, where can we find a museum today that invokes a cultural mission, with full comprehensive functions and professionallyoperated,and carrying the bearings of Chinese contemporary culture?An aircraft carrier has always been the symbol that represents a powerful military nation, while evoking the hopeful desire of the developed nation that strives to be stronger in its future. When Wang Du encounters the chaotic cultural values in Chinese societies today, he has cherished the illusive nature of creating a Contemporary Art Musuem of China’. Undoubtedly, he sincerely wishs there is a cultural ‘flagship‘ that can represents the powerful China.
Tang Contemporary Art has also organised Wang Du solo exhibition,International Kebab, in August 2008.
Artist introduction
Born in 1956, Wuhan, Hubei Province, Wang Du has lived and worked in Paris, France since 1990. He has also taught art in various art institutes as in Paris 8 University of SaintDenis and Brest Art College in France. A cofounder of the collective group of “ Southern Artist Salon” in Guangzhou during the period of85 New Wave in 1985, he has curated their first “Experimental Exhibition”. Wang Du employs various media to create his works, including installations,sculpture, photography,and new media.Wang Du creates artworks through the perspective akin to a shrewd observer of daily news. He has also claimed the concept of "I am the media” through his independent and critical standpoint. Since early 1990s, Wang Du started to focus on the images of masses media and popular culture, and he used plenty of symbolic informational tools in his artworks, such as videos, TV and computer. He cleverly transferred the meaning of information into the form of sculptures. His works represent the contemporary sense based on a strong offbeat vision and psychology. He has interfered the reality of the society through his direct yet humorous and ironic way of representation.

关于展览及艺术家
每个艺术家或者艺术工作者总是会面对这样的困境,当你的父母和家人问起:你(你们)到底做的是什么?这些东西有用么?这是我们必须也是最终都要面对的问题,即使你在艺术圈获得了超乎他们当初想象的成功,他们又是否理解这种成功的意义?
无关小组各成员回到家中,与父母合作。用大量的调查、访问、合作、切磋去实现一个个小家庭中的重新磨合,这些磨合是艺术作为一种视觉生产力去通达他人,通达整个社会的起点,是最诚实的矛盾和最亲近的不同观念之间的切磋。最后它们变成一些由小组成员制作,父母参与讨论和指导的装置和录像。
无关小组从2011年成立至今,一直致力于用更广泛的工作方法去实践艺术作为一种公共行动的能量,而不是作为一种为表演而进行的表演。从几次在公共空间中各种形式的“行走计划”去扩展游行,一种被过渡敏感化的公共行为的其他可能性;到无关委员会的小组展览,到此次回到家中和父母合作的计划,我们将延续我们的追问,并且持续的将艺术作为一种改造日常生活的能量和工作方法去实践。
Every artist or those working in the arts industry are always faced with a dilemma and that is when parents and the family members are to probe: what do you actually do? Are they useful? These are the eventual problems we must face, even if one has achieved the success that far exceeded imagination. In hindsight, could our familieseven understand the significance of this success? For this project, the members of the collective group, Irrelevant Commission, have returned home and worked out collaborations with their parents.With intensive interviews, and discussions to achieve a reunderstanding in a compact family, these motions set an initiation in art as a visual productivity to understand others, to reflect upon the origin of society, in the most honest contradictions yet different perceptions. Through the encounters with their loved ones, this leads
to a myriaof installations and video works produced by the collective.Since Irrelevant Commission was founded in 2011, the collective has contributed to the wider use of
artworks as an approach to energize and practice public action, rather than performing in order to be performed. To expand the conscious action from several “walking projects” in public spaces of various dimensions to possibilities of excess sensitization of public behavior. Through this latest exhibition where the members cooperated respective with their parents, they will extend their questionings and continue to create art as a kind of transformation in daily life and work methods to practice.
